FLYRS SUCCEED AT DEEP COVE

The FLYRS represented well at the Deep Cove High school regatta this year. This was a returning event for our varsity team and the very first regatta for our novice team. The fog held up races in the morning but as the fog cleared, the sunny skies appeared for a great day of racing. The conditions were perfect with glass water and sunny skies. All of our crews raced extremely well and we pulled away with a couple of wins for the team.
THE ALUMNI VS. VARSITY BOAT RACES

The 3rd annual Alumni vs. Varsity boat races were a great success. Once a year the alumni rowers of the FLYRS are invited back to the Bedford channel to compete against the current varsity rowers of the team. Competing in doubles and quads, the varsity team are able to test the strength against the alumni. The competition was fierce with many races finishing in a tight battle between the crews.
Each year the dynasty and boat scramble races are the one to watch and this year that was no exception. The dynasty quad race is a battle between families. The "Gulquad" of course did not disappoint as they took the race by storm. The Wick and Schmidt quads put up a fight but in the end the Gulka's were just too much for the competition. The boat scramble, a race where boat orders are made on the spot, was also a great event. This year, the boats were evenly matched and the race was very tight.
It was wonderful to see all the rowers and families out on the docks for a great afternoon of fun and friendly competition. As the club continues to grow, we look forward to adding more rowers to the Alumni vs. Varsity boat races in the future.
FLYRS COME & TRY SUCCESS

On July 15th, 2017, the FLYRS hosted a come and try event. The event gives kids ages 13 - 18 an opportunity to try the sport of rowing in a fun and safe environment. It was a beautiful day on the Bedford Channel and a great way to celebrate National Rowing Day. Fun was had by all and the love of the sport of rowing was shared.
